Best on clay, the Spaniard is comfortable on all surfaces although he has yet to make it past the last 16 of a Grand Slam event, although he came so close at Wimbledon but lost out to Mario Ancic 13-11 in a final set thriller. Considered by many to have one of the strongest forehands in the game, on his game Verdasco is a threat to any player but has suffered from inconsistency. A recent win in Croatia on his favourite surface clay will give him confidence for the trip to New York, but it will take an exceptional effort to make it to the quarters here.
