Most at home on the slower claycourts, Robredo has a solid, if unspectacular record at Flushing Meadows, making it to the fourth round four times but never beyond. A six-time winner on the ATP Tour, Robredo reached his peak of fifth in the rankings in 2006 when he also qualified for the Masters Cup, but his prowess appears to be on the wane. Second round defeats at Wimbledon and the Australian Open along with his earliest exit at Roland Garros since 2002 will not fill him with confidence ahead of the US Open and it is likely to take something special if the Spaniard is to make it past the fourth round for the first time.
