VERDICT

Soared into the spotlight at Wimbledon where she finished runner-up and caused one of the biggest upsets in the tournament's history by beating Justine Henin in the semis. One of few players to play two-handed on both sides, Bartoli has an excellent defensive game. Her Wimbledon effort was part of a fine run of form but, perhaps given the added expectation now heaped upon her, she's struggled to transfer that to the North American hardcourts. Unlikely to challenge for the title - but then that's what was said in the run-up to SW19.
