VERDICT

Having already equalled Bjorn Borg's feat of five consecutive Wimbledon titles this year, the remarkable Federer will be bidding for more history in New York. A victory will see him become the first player in the Open era to win the title four years in a row. However, the Swiss has finally shown some chinks in his armour this season and managed to win just one of the four Masters Series events on the hardcourts. He did take the title in Cincinnati recently without playing his best tennis though, which is an ominous sign. Is the hot, odds-on favourite for good reason.
