Will be glad to be off the grass having suffered an embarrassing first-round exit at the hands of Briton Melanie South at Wimbledon. However, as a player who has yet to win a WTA Tour title, the London-based Italian is not a contender here. Has been to the last eight at Flushing Meadows before and will surely be happy to repeat that 2003 effort, especially having had her preparation disrupted by a muscle strain.
