Tendonitis in her foot has forced Pierce to miss six months of the season - a major blow give how she performed in the second half of last year. She regained her best form to reach the final here, having also been to the title match at Roland Garros. The French star made an encouraging return in San Diego before losing to eventual champion Maria Sharapova.
