  • Wawrinka, though, held his nerve to win the fourth-set tiebreak to take the match the full distance
  • But it was Nishikori who prevailed to become the first Japanese man in the Open era to reach a grand slam semi-final.
  • Two-time defending champion Serena Williams is still to win a Grand Slam in 2014.
  • She was up against Italian Flavia Pennetta who took the opening three games before being overpowered.
  • Williams consoles Pennetta after recording a 6-3 6-2 victory.
  • Williams is now a big favourite to beat surprise semi-finalist Ekaterina Makarova.
