Great Britain's Sarah Borwell tasted defeat in the US Open women's doubles on Wednesday when she and American Jill Craybas were knocked out in the first round.
The 30-year-old from Middlesbrough and her 35-year-old partner took their match with France's Camille Pin and Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain to a final set tie-break having come from a set down on Court Five.
Yet their opponents ran out 6-4 2-6 7-6 (7-4) winners over the Anglo-American duo, Suarez Navarro serving out the winning point.
It was the second defeat of the day for Craybas, who had earlier been knocked out of the women's singles by 31st seed Elena Vesnina of Russia.
