Newly-installed world number one Maria Sharapova will begin her French Open challenge with a first-round tie against fellow Russian Evgeniya Rodina.
Sharapova, who was elevated to the top of the rankings after Justine Henin's retirement earlier this month, has won each of the other grand slams once, but has never been triumphant at Roland Garros.
Should she claim the crown this year she will become the 10th woman to win all four grand slam events - something Henin, who never won Wimbledon, could not achieve.
Second seed Ana Ivanovic, who lost to Henin in last year's final, will face Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson.
The 20-year-old faced the same opponent in the first round last year, claiming a 6-2 6-0 win. Fellow Serb and third seed Jelena Jankovic, who defended her Rome title on clay last week, was drawn against a qualifier while fourth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova will take on Aiko Nakamura of Japan.
Serena Williams, seeded fifth, is set for an all-American tie against world number 59 Ashley Harkleroad, with sister Venus taking on veteran Israeli Tzipora Obziler.
The French challenge will be led by ninth seed Marion Bartoli, who has a tough draw against Casey Dellacqua of Australia, the world number 51.
Amelie Mauresmo, who lost to the Dellacqua at this year's Australian Open, will play Olga Savchuk of Ukraine.
