Martina Navratilova won the US Open mixed doubles title in the final match of her illustrious career.

Partnering Bob Bryan, Navratilova eased to a 6-2 6-3 win over Czech duo Kveta Peschke and Martin Damm.

Navratilova, who turns 50 on October 18, was backed by a partisan New York crowd and she will now retire having picked up a total of 59 Grand Slam titles.

Speaking after the match an elated Navratilova beamed: "I just wanted to keep inspiring people, the way they inspired me, and sort of show people that you can do great things regardless of your age if you just believe and, you know, go for it."
