Sharapova: Serving well as she strolls through the draw
Sharapova: Serving well as she strolls through the draw

Here are their thoughts on Tuesday's play.

More than 2.5 aces in Maria Sharapova v Ekaterina Makarova at 8/11 (Stan James).

With fewer matches per day, more markets are appearing and, it would seem, more ricks. Stan James have their ace over/under line set at 2.5 for the Sharapova-Makarova quarter-final; Ladbrokes have their mark at 5.5. I'm going over 2.5 for Sharapova has been serving superbly. She cracked three aces past the long limbs of Venus Williams herself and was aced twice by Kirsten Flipkens in her last match despite cruising to victory. Makarova's serve is of similar speed. The pair met here last season and produced four aces between them in a match which Sharapova won comfortably, as she is expected to do this time around. Throw in the fact that Rod Laver Arena is reportedly playing faster than many of the other courts at Melbourne Park and the over 2.5 looks a sound bet.

Sharapova to win 2-0 and Li Na to win at 2/1

Djokovic and Ferrer both to win 3-1 at 12/1

Another acca win for Barry yesterday as he correctly picked all four female winners means he has now raised £782.33 for Cancer Research UK, operating at a profit of £438.33 through the tournament.

He said: "I'm sticking with my prediction that Li Na can progress through to the final, while Sharapova is unlikely to be tested once again. Almagro and Berdych both have a set in them but I'd expect the quality and consistency of Ferrer and Djokovic to shine through eventually."

  • All Barry's selections are with Sky Bet, who are donating all winnings to his chosen charity, Cancer Research.
