The win - Monfils' first since he claimed the Stockholm Open in October 2011 - follows on from his final loss to Rafael Nadal in Qatar last month.
Gasquet could not fashion a single break point on the Monfils serve, with the former world number seven winning an outstanding 92 per cent of points on his first delivery.
