The Spaniard, seeded two here, has been winner and runner-up of the two tournaments he has played since returning from a knee injury earlier this month.

And he continued his fine form with a routine 6-2 6-2 win over 20-year-old Argentinian Diego Sebastian Schwartzman.

There were also easy wins for Nadal's compatriots David Ferrer and Nicolas Almagro, who are seeded one and three respectively and have won the last five Acapulco titles between them.

Ferrer was a 6-0 6-3 winner over Croatia's Antonio Veic, while life was even simpler for Almagro who just missed out on the double-bagel, beating wildcard Cesar Ramirez, the 476th-ranked Mexican, 6-0 6-1. It was Almagro's 300th tour-level win.

Three seeds fell, though, headed by number four Stanislas Wawrinka.

The Swiss was handed a tough draw against Italy's Fabio Fognini and slipped to a straight-sets defeat, losing 6-2 7-6 (7/3).

Meanwhile number six Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil lost 4-6 6-4 6-4 to Russia's Andrey Kuznetsov, and seventh-seeded Frenchman Benoit Paire lost out 4-6 6-3 6-4 to Paolo Lorenzi of Italy.

There were also wins for eighth seed Horacio Zeballos, Spaniards Tommy Robredo and Daniel Gimeno-Traver, and American Wayne Odesnik.

The top women's seed, Sara Errani, had life almost as easy as her male counterpart as she beat Alexandra Cadantu of Romania 6-3 6-2.

The other seeds in action on Tuesday - Alize Cornet, Francesca Schiavone and Romina Oprandi - all won in three sets, beating Catalina Castano, Grace Min and Alexa Glatch respectively.

Other winners included Eugenie Bouchard and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez.
