The British number two won in singles and doubles to ensure a surprise defeat for Heather Watson did not derail GB's Europe/Africa Zone Group I promotion bid in Eilat, Israel.
Watson had been humbled 6-1 6-4 by Michelle Larcher de Brito, a player ranked 89 places below her in the WTA rankings.
But she returned to the court little more than half an hour later to team up with Robson and the pair duly won the doubles rubber against Larcher de Brito and Joana Vale Costa, losing only three games in the process.
The victory extended the duo's perfect Fed Cup record as a pair to 4-0.
They broke serve in games four and eight to take the first set and despite Watson losing her delivery early in the second they soon recovered and marched through the remainder of the contest to win it 6-2 6-1.
Watson said: "I'm very happy that i could turn it around in the doubles. I think Laura and I are a great team and we combine really well together. We were very excited to get the win."
Robson had earlier opened the tie by cantering to a 6-2 6-1 victory over Margarida Moura, ranked a lowly 975th in the world.
Robson surged 4-0 ahead with two early breaks of serve and never looked back as she claimed her first-ever Fed Cup singles victory.
However, Portugal soon levelled the tie with Larcher de Brito racing into a 5-1 lead against a sluggish Watson.
Watson showed her fighting qualities by twice coming from a break down in the second but having levelled the score at 4-4 she lost serve again and with it went her chances.
GB beat Bosnia on Thursday. They will now face Hungary - who have also won their first two Pool B ties - on Saturday when the winner will progress to Sunday's play-offs.
