(14) Gilles Simon
Having hit a career high of sixth in the world back in 2009, Simon is working his way back to the heights after dropping out of the top 50 the following season.
His consistent game is a strong one and it has caused certain players plenty of problems in the past. Notably Roger Federer is one of them.
However, Simon's build up to the Australian Open has not gone well.
An early loss in Brisbane followed by injury withdrawal in Sydney was "not the best preparation" - his words not ours.
Neither does he have a great record at Melbourne Park. Only once has the Frenchman reached the second week in six previous visits.
May be better remembered by some for his outspoken comments about equal prize money during last year's Wimbledon.
