Monfils fights back for win
France's Gael Monfils looked to have put injury concerns behind him ahead of the Australian Open with a first-round victory in the Heineken Open on Tuesday.

Monfils picked up an injury during last week's Hopman Cup, but was able to come through three tough sets in Auckland to beat German qualifier Benjamin Becker 6-7 (2/7) 6-3 6-4.
Earlier in the day, sixth seed Jurgen Melzer was the biggest casualty, the Austrian losing to Australian qualifier Greg Jones, who won 7-6 (9/7) 6-2 and will face Monfils in the second round.
Two other qualifiers also advanced to the last 16, with Holland's Igor Sijsling beating compatriot Robin Haase 3-6 6-3 7-5 and Canada's Jesse Levine defeating local wild card Daniel King-Turner 6-2 6-2.
