Stosur, who crashed out in the first round of the Brisbane International earlier this week, urgently needs some match practice ahead of the Australian Open.

This tough first round clash against Zheng, the world number 25, also provides the ideal opportunity for Stosur to prove to herself and the Australian tennis fraternity that she is capable of producing good results at home tournaments.

Stosur, who is the sixth seed at this year's Apia International, is on a collision course with world number seven Li Na, a former champion here in Sydney. The two could potentially meet in the quarter-final of the tournament.

Li is scheduled to play against exciting American teenager Christina McHale in the first round in Sydney.

In the bottom half of the Apia International draw, Caroline Wozniacki, who's career seems to be derailing fast, will face off with world number 31 Ursula Radwanska.

Former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, who herself has a considerable amount to prove, will play 23-year-old Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova in her first round match.

Agnieska Radwanska, Nadia Petrova, Jelena Jankovic and Daniela Hantuchova will all receive first round byes in what is a very strong field.
