Parmentier puts out McHale
France's Pauline Parmentier produced the biggest surprise of the day at the ASB Classic in Auckland, putting out seventh seed Christina McHale.

The world number 65 dropped just five games on her way to a 6-4 6-1 victory.
There were no such concerns for fourth seed Jamie Hampton, who beat Jie Zheng 7-5 6-1, or the 2010 winner, Yanina Wickmayer, as she beat Magdalena Rybarikova.
Elsewhere there were first-round victories for Elena Vesnina against Eugenie Bouchard, Eleni Daniilidou over Coco Vanderweghe and Kirsten Flipkens, who went to three sets against Galina Voskoboeva.
Kiki Bertens saw off Svetlana Kuznetsova in another three-setter, with Johanna Larsson also going the distance against Misaki Doi, while Simona Halep knocked out Arantxa Rus.
