The event's full field was announced on Thursday with world number four Agnieszka Radwanska, runner-up at Wimbledon last season, heading the list.
Three women with Grand Slam titles on their CV - Li Na, Petra Kvitova and Sam Stosur - will also compete, while the other members of the top 10 heading to Sydney are former world number one Caroline Wozniacki, French Open runner-up Sara Errani and Angelique Kerber.
However, the world's top three - Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams - have opted not to play. They will instead complete their Australian Open preparations the week before in Brisbane.
The men's draw is led by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, with Richard Gasquet the other top-10 star signed to play.
Defending champion Jarkko Nieminen and Australian number one Marinko Matosevic - recently voted the ATP's most improved player - were among those to have their entry confirmed on Thursday.
Tournament director Craig Watson said: "We are bringing together an incredible group of players to compete in Sydney next month.
