Tipsarevic through, Monaco out
Third seed Janko Tipsarevic advanced to the Japan Open quarter-finals on Thursday, but fourth seed Juan Monaco was bundled out.

Tipsarevic, of Serbia ,comfortably beat Swiss qualifier Marco Chiudinelli 6-4 6-2, but Monaco came unstuck against Marcos Baghdatis, the Cypriot winning 7-5 1-6 6-3.
Tomas Berdych, a former champion in Tokyo, completed a 6-3 7-5 win over Alejandro Falla, while sixth seed Milos Raonic received a free pass into the next round when his opponent, Viktor Troicki, retired with a calf injury while trailing 3-0.
Later in the day, there were wins for local favourite Kei Nishikori, who ousted Spain's Tommy Robredo 5-7 6-1 6-0, and Dmitry Tursunov, who was a 7-5 6-3 against Tatsuma Ito.
Top seed Andy Murray will face Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka in his quarter-final match on Friday.
