Verdasco books quarter-final spot
Top seed Fernando Verdasco survived a second-set scare to book his place in the quarter-finals of the Croatia Open at the expense of Latvia's Ernests Gulbis in Umag.

Verdasco, the world number 15, dominated the opening set, forcing 14 break points on the Gulbis serve and breaking twice to take it 6-2.
Gulbis regrouped to take the second before Verdasco took control again in the decider, wrapping up a 6-2 3-6 6-1 victory in two hours and five minutes.
Ukrainian third seed Alexandr Dolgopolov also progressed with a 6-2 6-4 win over Italy's Fabio Fognini, breaking twice in the first set and once again in the second to reach the last eight.
Fifth seed Carlos Berlocq saw off qualifier and fellow Argentinian Marco Trungelliti 7-6 (7/4) 4-6 6-1, while Russian wild-card Andrey Kuznetsov beat Croatia's Mate Pavic 7-6 (7/0) 6-1.
