Bellucci ends Tomic challenge

Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci hit back from behind in the opening set to knock Australian third seed Bernard Tomic out in the second round of the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart.

Bellucci, the world number 64, trailed 4-1 before recovering to clinch the first set on a tie-break and eventually wrap up a 7-6 (8/6) 6-3 win to book his place in the quarter-finals.

Eighth seed Tommy Haas was also surprised as he went down 6-4 6-4 to Slovakian qualifier Pavol Cervenak, who broke Haas three times on his way to a one hour and 32 minute win.

Argentina's second seed Juan Monaco eased past Tobias Kamke of Germany 6-2 6-3, while another German, Cedrik-Marcel Steve, reached the last eight with a 4-6 7-6 (10/8) 6-3 win over Jeremy Chardy of France.
