The pair announced they were teaming up last month after Sharapova ended her coaching relationship with Thomas Hogstedt.
"It's not the right fit for this time in my career," said Sharapova on Friday.
The Russian had linked up with Connors have a second-round defeat at Wimbledon. She injured her hip in that loss and only returned to action this week in Cincinnati, losing in her opener to Sloane Stephens.
Then came the abrupt split.
Connors had previously worked with Andy Roddick in the men's game but had no coaching experience on the WTA circuit.
Speaking in July when announcing the partnersghip, Sharapova said: "I am really excited about our new partnership and looking forward to the upcoming tournaments."
Her next match is due to be at the US Open in New York, which begins on August 26.
Sharapova won the tournament in 2006 but her chances of doing so this year would at present appear bleak.
