Britons Jamie Baker and James Ward are through to the second round of Australian Open qualifying.

Jamie Baker: Won in straight sets

Baker progressed with a straight-sets victory over Julio Cesar Campozano.

The world number 246 triumphed 6-3 7-5 over the Ecuadorian in one hour and 32 minutes on Court 14 at Melbourne Park.

Baker put in a solid performance, making just one unforced error against an opponent who, before this contest, was ranked 24 places higher than the 26-year-old Briton.

Baker will take on 19th seed Matteo Viola in the second round on Friday.

Ward joined his compatriot in the second round with a straight-sets win over Boris Pashanski, of Serbia.

Ward, the British number four, beat his 30-year-old opponent 6-4 6-3 in one hour and 12 minutes.

Ward broke serve four times, dropping his serve just once in the first set, to claim a comfortable win.

Next up for Ward will be Mischa Zverev, of Germany, also on Friday.

Anne Keothavong and Johanna Konta both play their first-round qualifiers on Thursday.
