Ferrer's improved form on hardcourts over the past couple of years has propelled him into the world's top five, but the fact remains is he made his name on the clay. Therefore his results on the red dirt so far this season should come as no surprise. He won in Valencia and finished runner-up in Barcelona, taking a set off Rafael Nadal in the final in the process - no mean feat. Highly likely to still be causing problems come the second week in Paris, although winning may be a step too far.
