VERDICT

Sadly for Davydenko, the Russian is arguably better known these days as the player caught up in a betting investigation. The ATP is still probing one of his 2007 matches which produced suspicious betting patterns, while later in the year Davydenko was also fined for 'lack of best effort', although the decision was later overturned. This all masks some great talent which is shown by Davydenko's impressive Grand Slam record, which includes two semi-finals here. Won the Miami Masters earlier this year, made the semis in Monte Carlo and won in Austria coming into this event. Likely to go deep into the tournament once again.
