VERDICT

The season so far has been a bit hit and miss for the shot-making Cypriot, who stormed onto the scene with his run to the final of the Australian Open last year. Perhaps feeling the pressure of having ranking points to defend, Baghdatis flopped in Melbourne in January but then won in Zagreb and made the final in Marseille. A poor hardcourt run followed but Baghdatis has fought well since the move back to the clay and looks capable of making an impression here for the first time.
