Long regarded as a star in the making by followers of the WTA Tour, the Czech teenager is now proving to be a serious Grand Slam contender. She made the semis here last season when only a virus prevented her from finishing inside the top 10. Carries the distinction of being the sixth youngest player to win a WTA title - aged just 15 years and three months - and is now seeking her first Grand Slam crown. However, she suffered a disappointing quarter-final loss on the Gold Coast in the build up to Melbourne, so this tournament may not be the one which sees her break that duck.
