VERDICT

This experienced left-hander is a tough cookie and has often caused the leading players problems. Prefers the claycourts but has a great record in Melbourne. She's reached at least the last 16 on each of her last five appearances (her best showing coming in 2004 when she made the semis) so she probably won't have welcomed the Rebound Ace being ripped up. Still, early reports of the new surface playing slow will be music to Schnyder's ears and another good run should not be ruled out, as she started the year well by reaching the Gold Coast semis.
