Top-class sport seems to be in the Petrova genes. Her parents were both top-class athletes, mum Nadejda Ilina winning a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay at the 1976 Olympics. The tennis player has been as high as world number three in the past but has always struggled to beat her elite peers on a regular basis. Plays her best tennis on the clay and has only just returned to action following a hip injury, so chances of success appear slim.
