VERDICT

Henin's 63-4 win-loss record in 2007 was the best on the WTA Tour for 18 years and reflected her dominance in the women's game. She undoubtedly starts as the favourite in Melbourne, a tournament she won in 2004 and finished runner-up in two years ago when she controversially quit during the final against Amelie Mauresmo due to illness. That belied her reputation as one of the toughest competitors on the tour. Her backhand is her famed shot but there are no real weaknesses in her game and, having just won the Sydney title to stretch her winning run to 28 matches, she will take all the beating here.
