VERDICT

Soared into the spotlight at Wimbledon last season where she finished runner-up and caused one of the biggest upsets in the tournament's history by beating Justine Henin in the semis. But that was not all she achieved in 2007. She racked up plenty of other match wins and moved into the world's top 10 as a result. One of few players to play two-handed on both sides, Bartoli has an excellent defensive game. It's failed to reap dividends for her here in the past - she's never been past round two - but the change of surface for this year's tournament may boost her.
