Gone are the days when Ferrer was simply known as a claycourt specialist. He reached his first Grand Slam semi-final on the hardcourts of Flushing Meadow last season, while he also won three ATP titles and made the final on his Masters Cup debut. Expectation has undoubtedly been raised for this campaign and Ferrer will do well to maintain his top-five ranking. However, he showed last year that he's a match for anyone on this type of surface and the other big guns will want to avoid him in the draw.
