VERDICT

Davydenko started 2008 with a cloud hanging over his head following a nightmare second half of last season. The ATP is still investigating one of his 2007 matches which produced suspicious betting patterns, while later in the year Davydenko was also fined for 'lack of best effort', although the decision was later overturned. This all masks some great talent which is shown by Davydenko's Grand Slam record; ignore Wimbledon and he was reached at least the quarter-finals in eight of his last nine majors. With question marks still surrounding him, Davydenko will do well to keep that record going here.
