VERDICT

A surprise finalist here two years ago, Baghdatis has had plenty to live up to since. At times he's struggled and last year he seemed to play in streaks, playing well for a couple of months before seeing his form tail off. He ended the campaign in fine fettle and almost sneaked into the season-ending Masters Cup field, but started 2008 with a disappointing first-round loss in Chennai. Capable of some spectacular tennis, as he showed back in 2006, but there are plenty more likely winners than the popular Cypriot.
