VERDICT

The man most likely to compete with Federer - he holds a 6-3 winning record against the great man. However, most of those victories have come on the slower claycourts on which Nadal has been almost invincible for two years. In fact since winning last season's French Open crown, Nadal has failed to add to his title collection and he has not even reached a final since Wimbledon. The relative slump in form - plus a recent groin injury - suggest Nadal will not be winning in Melbourne.
