Lleyton Hewitt, the feisty young Aussie, lived
up to his top-billing at the Japan Open by adding another title to his
portfolio in Tokyo.
Hewitt's victory over Michel Kratochvil extended his winning streak to 14
matches.
The newly-crowned US Open champion beat fifth-seeded Kratochvil of Switzerland
6-4 6-2 for his fourth title of the year.
He has not lost a match since a third-round defeat to Younes El Aynaoui at the
RCA Championships in August.
Hewitt, who did not drop a set all week, saved all five break points he faced and took home £80,000 for his first
tournament win in Japan.
He has 11 career titles now.
"I was able to get myself out of danger a couple of times today," he said.
"That's got a lot to do with having more confidence under my belt."
The 21-year-old captured his first grand slam crown last month in New York and
won both his singles matches to help his country beat Sweden two weeks later
and reach the Davis Cup final for the third straight year.
Kratochvil was playing in his second final in three weeks, but remains without
a career title.
He was runner-up at the Shanghai Open last month.
"Lleyton is so quick and he doesn't make any mistakes from the baseline," he
said.
"He is the hottest player in the world at the moment."
