Andre Agassi overwhelmed arch-rival Pete Sampras in straight sets - 6-4 6-2 -
to capture the ATP Mercedes-Benz Cup for the second time in Los Angeles.
Agassi won 11 of the last 13 games to defeat the former world number one for
the second time this year.
The man from Las Vegas also beat him in straight sets in the final of the
Tennis Masters Series at Indian Wells on March 18.
He claimed his fourth tournament victory of the year, adding to the Australian
Open, Indian Wells and Ericsson Open hard court titles he won over the first
three months of the season.
Agassi extended his hard court winning streak to 17 matches since a
first-round loss to Francisco Clavet in Scottsdale.
The third seed increased his lead in the ATP Champions race over Brazil's
Gustavo Kuerten after he ended the French Open champion's 15-match winning
streak on Saturday.
Sampras, the fourth seed, is still without a tournament victory since
capturing his seventh Wimbledon championship last year.
