Jan Vacek won the first ATP title of his
career on Sunday when he beat Fernando Meligeni in three sets to lift the Brazil
Open.
The Czech bounced back from losing the first set against the Brazilian to
triumph 2-6 7-6 (7/2) 6-3.
It was only Vacek's fourth ATP tournament and he said: "It has been an
unbelievable week for me. I am the happiest man on earth!
"But my thoughts are also with those who died in the terrorist attacks on
Tuesday and I want to dedicate this title to those people."
He added: "Fernando played very well in the first set. He was much better than
me, but then I managed to get things right in the second set and I played very
well in the third set."
Meligeni, the fifth seed, had been bidding to win his first tournament since
1998.
He said: "I started well but I got tired as the match went on. It was very hot
out there today."
