Victor Hanescu lifted his first ATP title to cap an impressive run at the Allianz Suisse Open.
Hanescu, who had already posted a series of upsets at the event, claimed another notable scalp in the final with a 6-3 6-4 triumph over seventh-seeded Russian Igor Andreev.
Tiredness took its toll on Andreev, who had to complete his semi-final over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez on the morning before taking to the court for the title match.
Andreev emerged from the last-four match with a hard-fought 7-6 (7/2) 5-7 7-6 (7/5) victory after the players had been tied at one set apiece overnight.
Ranked 80th in the world, Hanescu had beaten top-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka in the semi-finals and fourth seed Ivo Karlovic in the second round en route to reaching his first final since last September in Bucharest.
The 26-year-old Hanescu had few problems against Andreev, winning 40 of 52 service points while never facing a break point.
Hanescu, who had not won consecutive ATP matches since his run at Bucharest, became the first Romanian to claim the title here since Ilie Nastase in 1973.
