David Ferrer will head into Wimbledon fresh off his first grass court title.
The top-seeded Spaniard captured the Ordina Open championship on Saturday with a 6-4 6-2 victory over unseeded Frenchman Marc Gicquel.
Ferrer came into this event with just six wins in 13 career matches on grass, but this victory - just days before the start of the year's third major at the All England Club - should provide the world number five with a confidence boost.
Making his maiden appearance in a grass court final, Ferrer broke Gicquel three times in the match - twice in the second second set - and saved the only pair of break points he faced during the 82-minute encounter.
Ferrer played only one seeded player en route to his seventh career title, but was impressive nonetheless in his straight-sets quarter-final victory over two-time champion and sixth seed Mario Ancic.
This was the third final of the year for Ferrer, who won earlier this season in Valencia and finished runner-up to world number two Rafael Nadal at Barcelona.
The 26-year-old, who did not drop a set in five matches here, heads into Wimbledon with a 34-12 record this season.
Ferrer also became the second straight Spaniard to collect an ATP grass court title as Nadal won at Queen's Club in London last Sunday.
Prior to Nadal's win, a Spanish player had not won an ATP grass court event since Andres Gimeno at Eastbourne in 1972.
Gicquel had beaten Ferrer in both of their previous meetings, though Saturday's match was their first since 2006.
