Top seed Nikolay Davydenko gained a degree of redemption by beating defending champion Tommy Robredo to claim the Orange Warsaw Open.
The Russian saw off the Spaniard 6-3 6-3 to claim his third title of the season.
World number four Davydenko ran into controversy when this tournament was held in Sopot last year as his retirement from a second-round match against Martin Vassallo Arguello was investigated for irregular betting patterns.
He did not seem to be suffering any emotional baggage from that issue, however, as he cruised past Robredo, coming through on six of seven break chances en route to improving to 5-2 in their head-to-head series.
"For me every tournament is very important," said Davydenko. "This is my 14th tournament win and it will give me a lot of confidence for the upcoming weeks.
"Today every single game was difficult.
"It was tough to win the first set. Robredo was running and fighting a lot. The last game was very tough as well and luckily I won the last point. I think it was a nice match for the crowd."
"I think I was closer than the result says," Robredo said.
"Nikolay was playing very well during the whole match. He's a great player, he always hits the ball hard.
"It's tough when you don't take advantage of your chances. In the second set I had advantage six times, but I couldn't make it."
Robredo, who won this tournament in both 2007 and 2001, was playing in his first final of the season.
