Andy Roddick captured his third career title at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic on Sunday by recording a 6-4 7-6 (7-4) victory over John Isner.
It is the second title of the year for the 24-year-old Roddick, who also notched at least one hardcourt crown in each of the last seven years.
Although Roddick improved to 23-3 lifetime here, the story of the tournament was Isner, who had a stellar showing in just his second career ATP event.
Using his big serve, Isner pulled out wins over eighth seed Benjamin Becker, second seed Tommy Haas and number nine Gael Monfils en route to reaching the final.
The 22-year-old needed a third-set tiebreaker to seal all three upsets.
Playing in his first career final just months after helping the University of Georgia to the national championship, Isner attempted to hold his own with Roddick but proved too overmatched against the world's number five player.
The 6-8 Isner, who had just a first-round exit at Newport on his resume prior to this week, was ranked 416th in the world - a figure that should rise rapidly on Monday.
