Agustin Calleri teamed up with Jose Acasuso for the deciding victory as Argentina captured the World Team Cup on Saturday by beating the Czech Republic.
After Tomas Berdych posted a 3-6 6-3 7-6 (7-5) victory over Juan Ignacio Chela to give the Czech Republic the lead, Calleri sealed victory for his side.
"I take a lot from this week," Calleri said. "I played some very tough matches that helped me to get prepared for (French Open) Roland Garros. I take a lot of pride when I play for my country."
Ranked 29th in the world, Calleri tied things up with an easy 6-3 6-1 triumph over Jan Hajek.
Calleri and Acasuso then secured Argentina's third title in this event as the duo rallied for a 2-6 6-4 10-4 victory over Berdych and Martin Damm. Argentina also won this event in 1980 and 2002.
"We came to win this event. None of the guys thought they were better than the other," Acasuso said.
"We played as a team and were able to win it all. To win an event is always good for your confidence."
"We were 4-2 up in the doubles so it was very disappointing," Berdych said. "But they played well.
Still, it was a fantastic week, especially the match with the Germans. I have three wins and one loss in singles for the week so everything is fine for Roland Garros."
The Czech Republic again failed in their bid to win their first title with the closest they came in 2003 when they finished as runners-up to Chile.
"We were in the driver's seat but I didn't hold my serve and the conditions got heavy and the balls got big," Damm said.
"Agustin and Jose are very good from the baseline and I couldn't do much at the net.
They were hitting hard and deep and didn't make many mistakes."
