Lleyton Hewitt was celebrating capturing his 26th ATP Tour title on Sunday after a straight-sets win over Jurgen Meltzer at the Tennis Channel Open in Las Vegas.
After losing to American James Blake in last year's final, the number two seed would not be denied again as he secured a 6-4 7-6 (12/10) victory over the fourth-seeded Austrian.
It marked the third title here for Hewitt, who also won in 2000 and 2003, joining Las Vegas native Andre Agassi as the only players to win this event three times.
Each player broke early in the match but Hewitt claimed an advantage in the ninth game when Melzer hit a smash into the net, before the Australian then served out for the set.
The second set was more of a challenge for Hewitt, who saved a set point at 5-6.
He subsequently saved three more after falling behind 6-4 in the tiebreak before securing the title on his fourth match point.
The victory meant the world number 20 has now won at least one title every year for the past decade and he was delighted to end a drought stretching back to Queen's in June of last year.
"It is a big win," Hewitt said.
"After the U.S. Open last year I didn't play until the Australian summer, this year.
"I had to take the whole indoor season off and that was rough, not only for me and my rhythm for tennis but also mentally and trying to get back."
Melzer was left to rue a succession of missed opportunities.
"I had enough chances at least to take it to a third set," said
Melzer, who was 4-1 up at one point during the second set.
"I didn't take them - some of them maybe a little unlucky, some of them I choked."
In the women's tournament, rank outsider Caroline Wozniacki upset the form book to lift the Mirage Cup.
The unseeded Dane, the lowest-ranked player at 160 going into the tournament, saw off top seed Akiko Morigami 6-3 6-2 in under an hour.
It was the most impressive result so far for the 17-year-old, who won Junior Wimbledon last year.
