Roger Federer added another trophy to his cabinet on Saturday after posting a 6-4 6-3 win over Russian Mikhail Youzhny in the final of the Dubai Championships.
It was the second title this season and the 47th of his career for Federer, who also won the event three times in a row between 2003 and 2005.
The world number one for an ATP record 161 consecutive weeks, Federer has won 41 straight matches and needs just five more to match Guillermo Vilas' all-time record set in 1977.
Playing for the first time since sweeping through the Australian Open without losing a set, Federer faced some uncharacteristic challenges in Dubai, playing to a third set in a first-round win over Denmark's Kristian Pless and also going the distance against seventh-seeded Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the quarter-finals.
But after methodically beating fifth seed Tommy Haas of Germany in Friday's semis, Federer stayed on top of his game against Youzhny, firing four aces while breaking the Russian four times.
Youzhny, who won his third career title last weekend in Rotterdam, was showing some impressive form after his quarter-final upset of second seed and last year's winner Rafael Nadal.
But after dismantling unseeded Swede Robin Soderling in the last four, Youzhny saw his run come to an end against Federer, who has won all nine meetings between the two players.
