Wildcard Guillermo Canas beat top seed Juan Carlos Ferrero to claim the Brasil Open title in Costa do Sauipe on Sunday.
Canas romped to a 7-6 (7/4) 6-2 victory against Ferrero, who had been hoping to claim his first ATP Tour title in over three years at this event.
The victory is Canas' seventh ATP singles title, and the first on South American soil for the Argentinian. It is also his first since returning from a drugs ban last September.
The match came at the end of a gruelling weekend for both men, with each having been forced to play their quarter-final and semi-final games on Saturday after rain had played havoc with the tournament schedule.
Canas seemed less affected by this than his Spanish opponent, and outlasted Ferrero in the first set to secure victory in the tie-break.
The 29-year-old then began the second set with a break of serve before converting another break point in the seventh game to storm into a 5-2 lead.
He then served out the match for his first ATP victory since Shanghai 2004, while for Ferrero the loss was a fifth in succession from as many ATP final appearances.
