Spain's David Ferrer won the Heineken Open on Saturday after he defeated Tommy Robredo 6-4 6-2 in Auckland.
It was a deserved victory for Ferrer over compatriot and top seed Robredo who was not at his best at the ASB Tennis Centre.
Ferrer broke Robredo in the 10th game to go on and win the first set before breezing to victory in the second to secure his third ATP Tour tournament win.
The third seed was delighted by his performance in winning his first-ever hardcourt title, but it was getting one over on his Davis Cup team-mate that gave Ferrer the most satisfaction.
"When I play against him [Robredo], it's always tough," the 24-year-old said.
"He is at a very good level and he is a very strong player. In the first set he had more chances but in the second and third I played better.
"I am very happy. It's my first tournament on hardcourt. It's unbelievable. I won over Tommy. He's a top 10 player and it's important for me.
"I played my best tennis of the week. Every point was at a good level."
Meanwhile, Robredo was gracious in defeat despite missing out on a fifth career ATP title.
"David was playing so good," Robredo said. "I think playing with wind was better for him because he plays with two-hand backhand and me one, and he doesn't miss much.
"He was just a little bit better today."
