Nikolay Davydenko took full advantage of his second chance.
The top-seeded Russian overcame a pair of squandered match points in the second set to capture his second title of the year with a 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 6-4 victory over German Florian Mayer in Sunday's final of the Orange Prokom Open.
Davydenko, who entered the championship match of this $542,700 claycourt event dropping only one set, appeared en route to another triumph in straight sets when he built a 5-1 lead in the second.
However, the unseeded Mayer, who already had upset No. 2 Tommy Robredo and No. 5 Juan Ignacio Chela in this tournament, fought off two match points and reeled off six straight games to level the match at a set apiece.
The ATP's sixth-ranked player, Davydenko rebounded by breaking twice in the final set to secure his sixth career title in two hours, 34 minutes.
Davydenko improved to 2-0 all-time against Mayer, previously beating him on the Challenger circuit four years ago.
