Tommy Haas put an end to Belarussian
qualifier Max Mirnyi's dream of winning the Tennis Masters Series event in
Stuttgart.
The German beat Mirnyi 6-2 6-2 6-2 as he carried off his fourth title of the
year.
Mirnyi, 24, beat Gustavo Kuerten, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Pete Sampras and Goran
Ivanisevic en route to the final.
But he was broken six times by Haas, who also benefited from Mirnyi's tendency
to produce unforced errors.
Haas, who was the first German to win the event since Boris Becker did so in
1996, said: "This was my nicest victory of the year because I like playing in
Germany. I really wanted to play well before a home crowd."
Haas, 23, won the CA Tennis Trophy last week and has moved up to seventh in the
Champions Race.
